LA Prepares for Cricket in 2028
🏏 Cricket and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics — Building a Legacy Beyond the Games
The 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games will mark a defining moment in sports history — the return of cricket to the Olympic stage after more than a century. As a city celebrated for its diversity, innovation, and global influence, Los Angeles stands uniquely positioned to reintroduce the world’s second most popular sport to a new generation of fans.
But this historic opportunity comes with a clear responsibility: to ensure Los Angeles is ready to meet the moment. The infrastructure, player development, and community engagement required to bring cricket to life at the Olympic level must be built today — not tomorrow.
Why Cricket Matters for Los Angeles
Cricket is played by more than 2.5 billion people worldwide. It transcends borders, cultures, and languages — uniting communities across continents. For Los Angeles, the inclusion of cricket in the Olympics is more than an athletic milestone; it’s an opportunity to reflect the city’s international heartbeat and to become the epicenter of American cricket.
The Olympics give Los Angeles a platform to do what it does best — bring the world together. But to make this legacy real, the city must invest in the foundations that allow cricket to thrive long after the closing ceremony.
Building the Infrastructure for Growth
Los Angeles’s cricket facilities, including the Sepulveda Basin Cricket Complex, remain the core of the city’s ecosystem but are under-resourced and over-utilized. While professional and semi-professional teams like the Los Angeles Lashings (Minor League Cricket) and the LA Knight Riders (Major League Cricket) have energized the local scene, access to quality, event-ready grounds is still limited.
To sustain cricket’s momentum, we must focus on:
New Facilities: Develop additional turf and multipurpose cricket grounds across the city to support youth, recreational, and professional play.
Enhanced Maintenance: Allocate dedicated resources to keep existing fields at international standards year-round.
Event-Ready Venues: Upgrade infrastructure capable of hosting Olympic-level competition and future global events.
This investment ensures that cricket’s return to Los Angeles leaves a lasting legacy for future generations of players and fans.
Investing in the Next Generation
The Olympic spotlight will inspire a new wave of young athletes. To meet that demand, Los Angeles must prioritize youth development through structured programs and community access.
At Los Angeles Cricket (LAC), we are committed to:
Expanding grassroots programs to make cricket accessible to all communities across LA County.
Providing expert coaching and mentorship for youth through partnerships with local clubs, schools, and organizations.
Creating clear player pathways from youth leagues to professional opportunities in Major and Minor League Cricket.
By empowering young athletes, Los Angeles can ensure that cricket’s growth continues long after the Olympic flame has gone out.
How You Can Help
Delivering cricket at the Los Angeles Olympics is a community-driven mission. Every player, parent, coach, partner, and supporter has a role to play in shaping this journey.

Let’s Make History Together
Cricket’s return to the Olympics is more than a sporting event — it’s a moment of unity, pride, and progress for Los Angeles. The question is no longer whether cricket will shine at LA28 — it’s when we, as a community, will come together to make it unforgettable.
