SoCal’s Declining Representation

The West regional structure now combines Northern California, Southern California, Oregon, and Washington into one team, drastically limiting selection spots; whenever the nationals do happen that is. Unlike about a decade ago when SoCal had its “own” regional team (South West) at the Nationals, players now struggle for visibility, leading to fewer national selections. This geography lesson isn’t perfect, but you get the idea. Lots of players and not a lot of selections.

Additionally, SoCal’s overall player pool and performance levels have declined, as reflected in recent national tournament results and the dwindling recreational structure.

Outside of young left-arm seamer Ayaan Desai, no emerging SoCal player has made a significant impact. The national calendar along with MiLC 2025 will be an important phase for players like Ayan turning the books from U19 to senior men’s to stake their claim at a National spot. These bumps are expected, and we need to build up our local player pool.
